From its inception, in 1926, the School of Nursing, Satribari Christian Hospital has produced a number of efficient nurses who are employed in different parts of the country and abroad.

The School of Nursing is recognised by the Assam Nurses’ Midwies’ and Health Visitors’ Council and the Indian Nursing Council. It offers the Diploma General Nursing and Midwifery programme with an annual intake of 20 students. The School of Nursing has well-qualified teaching faculty .

PHILOSOPHY OF SCHOOL OF NURSING
The School of Nursing, Satribari Christian Hospital believes that the programme is designed to help students in their personal and professional growth and development, so as to enable them to, make their maximum contribution to the society as individual citizens and nurses and to develop pride in their profession.

We believe that this development can best be realized through the principles of Christian social living based on a personal relationship to God through Jesus Christ, and to help them to apply their faith in Christian witness and professional care in the healing ministry. We believe that the basic course in Nursing is based on sound scientific principles and educational principles to prepare students for a suitable profession which they can practice with dignity.

OBJECTIVE
In pursuance of the said philosophy, the aims and objectives of the School are to empower Young women that opt for nursing as a career as well as to provide opportunities for the students to acquire and develop:

» A sound theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing care at basic as well as advance levels, contributing to, preventive the promotive and restorative aspects of health.
» The ability to think and act independently with full responsibilities as a qualified nurse and as a caring human being.

On Completion of the 3 year Nursing Programme the nurse will be able to :
1. Apply knowledge from physical, biological, behavioural and medical science in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

2. Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.

3. Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.

4. Demonstrate skills in critical thinking in making decision in handling critical situations in order to provide quality care.

5. Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.

6. Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.

7. Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.

8. Communicates effectively with individuals and group s, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork spirit.

9. Demonstrate3 skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/community health settings.

10. Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.

11. Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical /community health settings.

12. Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research finding to improve the quality of care.

13. Demonstrate awareness, interest, and contribute towards development of self and of the profession.

PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL:

1. To provide instruction in the art and science of nursing and subjects related to nursing in the context of Christian service.

2. To help the students provide comprehensive nursing care.
